BATHYMETRY

Learn more about the Bathymetry method

Bathymetry uses sonar equipment or lasers to measure the depth of the bed in dams, ponds, and other structures that have water on the surface. The methodology can be executed by manned boat and remotely controlled boat, further contributing to operational safety.

The bathymetry measurement techniques available from Geoscan include the use of acoustic probes (sonar) and laser scanning systems (LiDAR). Once the data acquired by the above techniques has been processed, the bathymetry data is analyzed and visualized in formats such as maps, depth profiles, and three-dimensional models. Such data is compiled into a final technical report to be delivered to the client that describes the methods used, the data collected, the analyses carried out and the conclusions obtained.

What are the main applications of Bathymetry?

This method plays a crucial role in directing engineering projects, being instrumental in the planning, design, and implementation of a wide range of projects related to dam and coastal areas, helping in the safety, predictability, efficiency, and sustainability of these projects. Below are some of the main applications:

  • Water Resources Management;
  • Siltation control;
  • CAV – Dimension x Area x Volume;
  • Calculation of the useful life of bus structures;
  • Hydrological maps;
  • Three-dimensional Terrain Model – flooded section;
  • Flow Calculation.
