The Standard Penetration Test is a geological-geotechnical method that aims to determine and characterize the types of soils and their occurrence depths, the water level position, and mainly the Soil Penetration Resistance Index.
In a simple way, the soil penetration resistance index is determined by using a standard weight, that falls in a standard distance to hit the ground using an entire set of equipment to collect soil samples.
This standard weight has 65 kg and falls from 0.75 meters height. All procedures for performing this test are determined in Brazil by NBR 6484.
This method is widely used in civil engineering to obtain subsidies that will define the type and dimension of the foundations. This information will serve as the basis for a building project.
